James Mataczynski Family Practice clinic has served Racine since April, 2004, offering a full range of medical services for the entire family. The clinic was founded on the principle that patient care is best delivered by a physician free to devote the necessary time to assess and treat every individual.
James D. Mataczynski, MD, SC - Family Practice
Dr. Mataczynski’s father, also a family practitioner, practiced medicine for over 40 years, and was James’ inspiration to enter medicine. A native of Superior, Wisconsin, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from UW-Superior before beginning his study of medicine in the early 1980s at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland and the Medical Academy at Wroclaw, Poland.
Against the backdrop of political upheaval in Poland at that time, and following completion of a summer program in pharmacology at Creighton University in Nebraska, Dr. Mataczynski transferred there in 1983 where he ultimately completed his medical degree. An internship in General Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, followed by a residency in Family Practice at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, paved the way for his return home to Superior. There, he joined his father in practice until Dr. Robert Mataczynski's retirement.
During those years, the Superior Clinic provided student and athletic health care for the University of Wisconsin-Superior, James’ alma mater. 'This connection with the University's athletic department served to promote his interest in sports medicine.
Dr. Mataczynski has lived and worked in Racine, Wisconsin since 1999. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Wisconsin State Medical and Racine County Medical Societies. His membership in these professional medical associations enables him to remain abreast of ongoing advances in areas of study affecting family medicine. He undertakes a minimum of 50 hours of continuing medical education each year, and in 2009, Dr. Mataczynski recertified his qualifications as a family medicine specialist by sitting for the American Board of Family Physician’s certification exam.
James has been married to Grazyna since 1984. Dr. Mataczynski has two adult daughters – Sylwia who works in the ski industry in Breckenridge, Colorado, and Natalia, a student of veterinary medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A lifelong skier, he also enjoys golf and curling, and took up the bagpipe in 2008.
